सार

In Indian employment framework, the adoption of the “Code of Wages 2019” serves as a revolutionizing step. It demonstrates a transformation from a fragmented legislative regime towards a comprehensive and structured code regulating wage-related aspects. Before framing of the 2019 Code, the wage regulations were governed via several legislations. While these statutes sought to safeguard employees, their co-persistence eventually led to implementation issues, overlapping sections and inconsistencies. The Wages Code aims to address such concerns by enacting a uniform legal code applicable to each class of workers across different sectors. It inculcates various progressive provisions like wage standardization, gender equality in wages, etc. But the practical effectiveness of the Code is dependent on its enforcement within the complicated social and economic landscape of Indian labour sector. This research paper critically explores the definition and features of the Code on Wages 2019 and also analyses its provisions regarding its efficiency in attaining wage justice. The paper also underpins the notable challenges related to the Code and provides conclusion while providing relevant suggestion for brining policy reforms, institutional strength and efficient governance in labor market.
